MSA takes the field

Second annual soccer event helps bridge cultural gaps.

Curtis’s Muslim Students’ Association (MSA)’s mission statement is to show the true beauty of Islam by spreading positive awareness and eliminating any misconceptions. This statement was carried out through many forms, one of which is through the MSA’s annual soccer  tournament. This year it was hosted in Midland Beach by its co-organizers Omar Alhagiko and Tyler Ellis.

“A lot of Curtis students love soccer and are great at it; we created an atmosphere where they can exercise their passion. We were able to register eight teams with six players on each team,” said Omar Alhagiko.

“Each tournament was divided into two 10-minute halves with each team getting an equal chance at winning the title of Champions. The winning team members were awarded trophies to recognize their talent on June 13th in the Soccer Tournament’s championship game,” said MSA president Yusuf Cisse.

“At first, I accepted co-organizing this soccer tournament because I absolutely love soccer and I am interested in anything that involves soccer. With the progression of the soccer tournament I also realized a new passion, a passion  to organize and manage a team,” said Tyler Ellis

“It was an empowering experience because I was able to referee a whole soccer tournament and manage my peers,” stated Musleh Seidi.

“Even though this is my last year participating in the soccer tournament, it is helping me stay in shape for college soccer,” said Abdelrahman Edres.
