For the past few years, Curtis High School has been ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.’ The  annual walk for breast cancer awareness and research took place on Sunday, October 18th, at Midland Beach. Nursing teacher Barbara DiStefano lead the contingent from Curtis.  Samantha Boyer, and the girls varsity volleyball team was also heavily involved in the walk, creating T-shirts and raising one hundred dollars.

As usual, the event was heavily decorated in pink, and so were the participants. Approximately seventy students from Curtis High School attended the walk to show their support for the cause.

Each year businesses, schools and organizations turn out to raise awareness. Survivors and their families participated in the walk to spread the message that there is hope if you face a breast cancer diagnosis. According to SILive, there were nine thousand participants across the island that raised a total of sixty-six thousand dollars to support breast cancer research.

“It was a good feeling knowing that we made a difference even if it was a small event for a huge cause,”said Rachel Kearns, a member of the varsity volleyball team.
