Students honor Alumni at the Vietnam War Memorial

The annual trip to Washington D.C is a privilege that journalism juniors and law seniors work hard to acquire. The trip consists of a select few 10-15 journalism students and 10-15 law students, and only those with high averages, great work ethics, and the best behavior are permitted to go.

The group of students made many stops while in Washington D.C, with the most memorable and eventful place being the Spy Museum. Visitors were able to experience a simulated spy mission along with the thrills and adventure that come with being a spy to save the world.

After the simulated mission, students toured the actual museum and had the chance to view a number of interesting gadgets.  They also learned some background information on well-known spy movies.

“I really enjoyed the Spy Museum because it was very suspenseful and wasn’t particularly scary. I enjoyed the fantasy of it,” said Kristen Foster, a journalism senior.

Amanda Fernandez, a journalism junior said, “My favorite site was the Newseum because it had so much information about journalism and it was fun at the same time.”

Students also visited famous historical sites such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Capital. For many students, it was awe-inspiring to finally visit these famous places in person after seeing them in so many movies and shows. The Capital is a beautiful building with many interesting historical statues, paintings, and displays, among other exhibits.

The trip was a great opportunity not only for the students to connect with one another, but also for the students to connect with the teachers who they’ve known for a while. For some students, it was unusual seeing their teachers out of a regular classroom setting.

In a classroom, a teacher focuses on teaching and making sure students do their work. On this trip the teachers were actually having fun while doing their job. The teachers “let loose” and actually got to know the students.

Not everyone has the opportunity to go on this trip. For upcoming journalism juniors and law seniors who want to go, they should buckle down and work their hardest not only in their journalism and law classes, but in all of their other classes as well.
