Boys tennis winning streak

The boys tennis team has been doing phenomenally this season with eight wins and only two losses. The team, lead by coach Lisa Pillarella, have been somewhat surprised by their wins. Captain and first singles player Mark Lewis said, “This is not something we’re used to experiencing as a team, so it’s a new and exciting feeling as a whole. As of right now the team is in first place in the Staten Island A5 division with four wins and only one loss.” Andrew Shaw, second singles freshman, feels great that the team is having a winning season,  “…everyone has been practicing hard and diligently together. We are all making an effort to win every game.” This is a big shift from the team’s record last year with three wins and seven losses. Nicholas Guastella, third singles senior, also commented, “it’s pretty exciting. The team this season looks really promising and I think we can go really far in the playoffs this year.” In recent tennis history, the Curtis Team has never been victorious over the Wagner Team, though in keeping with their winning streak, the 2019 team has finally conquered. Overall, the match was very close and the win in the end came down to first singles, where Mark Lewis won the final game 10 to 8. The entire team is excited and determined to come out of this season as champions.
