Girls track team place second at Staten Island PSAL Indoor Championship

The girls indoor track team had a great season, they won second place at the Staten Island Championship. Out of the 18 events the Warriors placed in the top four in all but 6.  The girls did the best in the shot put; scoring second, third and fourth place. Brianna Ozigbo with 29ft 2.25in, Fatoumata Koroma with 29 ft 0.50in  and Lluleydy Juarez Guzman with 28 ft 7.00, took the medals in this field event.

  It was a team effort with both the 4x 200 and 4×400 relays securing a lot of points for the Warriors.   The 4×400 runners  Mariame Aghailas, Bineta Sarr, Amya   White, and Angelina Febles placed second The relay went on to the City Championship and placed third.

The 4×200 team also did exceptionally well. they placed first with 1 minute 50.48 seconds. The runners were Mariame Aghailas, Kortney Brown, Jalyn Collins, and Bineta Sarr.

For the 55 yard dash, Sarr won another medal, placing second with 0 min 7.69 sec. In the 1500 meter dash Amya White also got another medal, placing second with 5 minutes and 6.20 seconds; then in the 55 meter high hurdles, Jasmine Yehia placed first with a time of  9.99 seconds. In the High Jump, Trinity Kinard placed first with 4ft 8.00in.

Many people think that running is an individual sport but there is always a team effort. One of the runners, Bineta Sarr said ”being on the team is really amazing. You forget about even running alone, our team has great energy and we always support each other. Practice is usually really hard, but we always cheer each other on and that’s what makes us a team.”
