Teams practice at IS 49

This year the girls varsity and jv basketball team practice once or twice a week at IS 49 in Stapleton because of limited gym time. With the other wing still under construction, there is only the new gym that opened last year to be shared by four basketball teams. With gym time starting at three and ending at nine. Practice times for each team can be anywhere to an hour and half or two hours depending on the day and possible events that will be held in the gym such as basketball games. “We are very grateful to have IS 49 as an alternative practice space, on days were we usually would not practice because we wouldn’t have gym time now both girls JV and Varsity have a space to prepare for games and practice,” said Coach Talia Sutton.

Having this space is a huge help the teams are able to practice more during the week. “I like practicing at 49, it’s not far from school and it’s in the neighborhood. Also we are still able to practice and get work done and prepare for our opponents,” said senior Arielle Spann. Next year with the possibility of the other wing open there will me more practice times available since there will be two gyms once again.
