Seniors compete for the last time

Their last competitions have special meaning for many Warrior athletes.

There are a lot of firsts and last in high school. For varsity athletes, the last time they compete as Warriors on their home turf can be particularly poignant. For the fall season there are 46 athletes who shared this last experience.

Isaiah Robinson, captain of the varsity football team said, “I was on JV for my freshman year and have been on varsity since sophomore year. I became close to my teammates. They made me accustomed to the game and I’m sad this is my last season because after this, I won’t be playing high school football anymore.”  Robinson was a key player; he was linebacker, making 65 tackles in just this season.

Robinson was very emotional in one of his last home games against Old Boy’s and Girl’s High School. “I was pretty sad it was one of my last homecoming games. When I saw a picture of me and my dad from my senior game it made me cry because that was the last home game he will see me playing at Curtis High School. I think the team did pretty well considering we won and that meant a lot to me.”

Breann McKeon, the goalie on the girls varsity soccer player, has been playing since her freshman year and shared her love for the sport. “I’ve grown close to the girls on my team, there was a point where we were like a family. I’ll miss playing high school sports, it’s more enjoyable because even if I play in college, it’ll be taken more seriously than high school.” Breann made 121 saves this season and is looking to play soccer in college.  For the last home game of the girls varsity season, the underclassman presented the seniors with customized shirts.  They also brought snacks and made signs to honor the five seniors.

Luis Morales III, captain and goalie of the boys varsity soccer team said, “I’ve played soccer all four years of high school. As a team, we grew from friends to family – they’re more than teammates. I plan on playing soccer in college. I got most of my experience from playing in high school.” Luis Morales III made 38 saves this season and scored 4 goals as well.  His coach, Tombo Berete, shared his feelings on the seniors leaving the team. “It’s sad, they didn’t want the season to end. I know how it feels to play the last game on the field, as a former soccer player in Curtis High School.”
