Boys lacrosse avenge championship loss

The boys lacrosse breaks their win record in this season.

It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Aviator Field when the Warriors prepared to face Frederick Douglass Academy for the championship. The Warriors came ready to play but FDA came as well. The scoring went back and forth until the final horn sounded. It was a hard fought game but ended in disappointment for the Warriors, 9-8. The beauty of sports is that you can always face a team again.

The Warriors were afforded that opportunity this season on another rainy day. However, the outcome was much different than last season. The Warriors rolled FDA in a 13-3 win at Randall’s Island Field. The loss in last year’s championship had resonated with the team and the Warriors came out fighting. The win did more than just count towards their stats, the win showed the entire city that Curtis lacrosse had stars that truly dedicated their heart to the game and established themselves as better players.

As Coach Pizzarelli always said, “We go hard.” Senior captain Eamon Murtha said,”Losing in the championship was tough, and the entire team felt the loss. Crushing them the next year was a win for all the kids who graduated and could not see the loss avenged.” Having played in the championship and now helping coach, Senior Jack Rauscher said,”It was a tremendous victory, the feeling of destroying the team that took away the championship from us last year.” Now that’s an act of payback that many of us have inside of ourselves.

The Warriors had a record breaking season. They ended the regular season 8-5. They have the most A-division wins in Curtis history and the first Curtis team to make it into the A-division playoffs. Unfortunately,in the first round of the playoffs, the Warriors lost to Frederick Douglass Academy with a score of 5-4. However, this is just another lesson learned by the fellow Warriors, because they won’t let this bring them down.
