Inspired by the tradition established by professional sports organizations, media days allow players and coaches to participate in photo shoots and video sessions that highlight both the individual athlete and the team as a whole. For the fall season, boys soccer, football, girls volleyball cross country and cheerleading had media days.
This year, each team had its own designated date to shine. The varsity football team opened the series on August 21st, followed by the soccer on August 28th, with the track team on September 13th.Volleyball and cheerleading followed. By staggering the schedule, each sport received dedicated attention and a moment in the spotlight.
During the events, athletes posed for pictures, filmed promotional clips, and enjoyed moments with teammates that reflected their camaraderie and school pride. Much of this content will be shared across Instagram, TikTok, and other team-run pages, giving classmates, families, and fans a behind-the-scenes look before the season begins. “Media days are a very fun day, speaking from a photographers point of view, due to the sheer amount of interesting photos I’m able to take,” said Ibrahim Wallee.
While Media Day emphasizes school spirit and publicity, coaches also use them as a teaching moment about balance. “To be a student-athlete, you have to be a student first,” said Coach Amato, reinforcing the importance of academics alongside athletics. At the same time, Amato acknowledged how platforms like social media have transformed opportunities for young athletes: “It’s a way for each team player to highlight their talents and have the chance to get recognized.” For many, this exposure can even draw the attention of college programs. “I think social media is important as a soccer player because of the accessibility to reach out to college coaches,” said Joshua Cedeno.
More than just a promotional tool, Media Day has become a moment of celebration of hard work, unity, and pride. With each team creating its own content and capturing its own energy, the excitement rippled across Curtis. From highlight reels to candid moments, the events underscored that Media Day is not only about preparing for the season—it is about recognizing achievements, strengthening bonds, and celebrating the journey that each team undertakes together.
