Over the last year the campus has evolved, with the final touches added this month. On October 19th 2023, Borough President Vito Fossella and his office officially cut the ribbon on the brand new entrance of Curtis that will serve generations of Warriors to come.
If you have ever walked into Curtis prior to the face-lift, you would have been met with pavers/tiles that were broken, sticking out of the ground, extremely slippery, and an overall hazard to student safety. Curtis’ Borough Student Advisory Council Members, Amber-Ann Houghtaling and Caroline White, saw this issue and advocated to the Borough President. for the installation of new pavers After some convincing and thoughtful conversation, he agreed to sponsor the $250,000 project.
A new walkway was not the only thing added! New shrubs were also added, lining the entrance walkway to provide a beautiful, professional, and welcoming atmosphere for anyone walking to the castle on the hill. The addition of shrubs including the new lights from last year has brightened the appearance of the campus as well. Kai Kwok, a senior, states, “The new campus looks amazing. It is my senior year and I haven’t seen the actual front of Curtis since there was scaffolding. Now that I can, I think the new pavers, lights, and shrubs compliment the aesthetic of the building very well.” Hopefully the campus can continue to receive upgrades in the near future.
