Girls bathroom finally receives renovation

Starting Mid-December, Curtis began to renovate the girls restroom on the third floor. Despite the excitement of having updated bathrooms, the inconvenience of traveling far to use the facilities takes its toll on female students. For the female students who mostly have classes on the third floor, the trip to the bathroom can be a hassle due to the fact that they need to travel all the way to the first floor to do their basic necessities.

One student, Alexis Bustamante, commented, “… disappointed that the girls’ bathroom is closed down. I feel that it’s a shame  female students have to go all the way down to the first floor to use the bathroom especially when having a class on the third or even fourth floor. Not to mention the first floor bathroom near the lunchroom is less than flattering. I hope the wait is worth it.”

Another, Amy Travers, says, “I feel that the school should’ve waited until the summer to upgrade the girls’ bathroom on the third floor because we need the bathrooms to always be open.  I also feel that the stall doors should be taller, and have better locks in the new bathrooms once they are done.  We are girls, and therefore should always have access to the bathrooms.”

This renovation has also caused issues for teachers. They believe that their learning time for their female students can become limited to the point at which when they come back from the restroom they don’t fully understand what is going on. “I think it just makes more of an excuse to get out of class because they have to travel all the way to the first floor, there are times in which it takes most of their learning time,” said Ms.Frank, who teaches on the third floor.

The renovations are expected to be completed by the spring break.
