Astronomy is now offered as a  class. Ms. Jackson teaches two sections of this new science elective. Curtis also has a popular  Astronomy Research club run by Jackson. She is passionate about the stars and is excited about bringing that enthusiasm to her students.  “I think that there’s so much material to be offered and there’s a lot of student interest,” said Jackson. “It wouldn’t be possible to teach all  topics in an after school club, so a class is better.”

Students can channel their interest in the stars into a grade bearing class. In astronomy class, students will be introduced to topics like observational astronomy, the moon and solar system, and the energy of the solar system. “We learn about the stars, sun and how the planets were created,” said Teree Davis.

The class is already a hit with students who enjoy the subject. “The class is very fun, and Ms. Jackson is a great teacher,” said Cristian Zeferino.

Students will be able to expand their minds and open their eyes to the universe beyond planet earth,” said Jackson, the class’s teacher who advocated for it because she felt it would positively affect her students.
