The NJROTC Color Guard started off the night’s festivities.

This year was Curtis High School’s First NJROTC Ball. The ball took place at the Cichon Post on November 1st. There was a huge turnout, with over 90 people in attendance, including  NJROTC students, parents and students from other programs in Curtis.

“It was very important to have a good turnout because this was our first ball, and we had our new Principal and Mr. Ritzer attend. We wanted to show them how popular the program was,” said Phylisha Kisso, Academic Officer.

The ball started with the sword ceremony, followed by the cake ceremony. During the cake ceremony, the student officers recognized the oldest and youngest cadets and the guest of honor, Principal Greg Jaenicke. The youngest cadet is Bailey Seda born on December 20th, 2001 and the oldest cadet is Damone Jackson born on May 23rd, 1997. Following the cake ceremony, the cadets, parents and other students ate dinner. “The food was really good, my favorite was the chicken parmesan,“ said Omar Nabawy.

“My favorite part was dancing and having fun with my fellow cadets. We deserve it with all the hard work and competitions we did,” said Tyra Nixon, E8 Senior Chief. “It was fun, I feel that the following years will be better because the cadets have potential. I changed into a blue ball gown after my uniform because I was part of the sword ceremony,” said Commanding Officer Emili Prado.

After dinner was dancing, where everyone did the most popular dances, from the cha-cha slide to the whip.

Lieutenant Commander Eeeb said, “The cadets did a wonderful job putting it together, it was great event, I had a wonderful time and I can’t wait until next year’s ball.”
