Weather does not deter Spring Fling

Curtis hosted its fourth annual Spring Fling on Saturday, May 4th, with many games to play, a variety of food to sample, vendors selling amazing items, raffles with great prizes, and awesome performances by students and faculty.

Thankfully, rain didn’t stop the Curtis tradition from happening, it just moved the event inside. Many clubs used the Spring Fling to showcase their talents. The robotics club had remote control robots to try out and a Dance Dance Revolution tournament. The Dreamers Club performed an international dance.

AVID, the step team, and the horror cinema club sold delicious baked goods. Global Kids also sold food from various countries, including Nigerian delicacies, empanadas and rice and beans.  “ I loved the diversity of the food and how the food showcased the diversity in the school.  People were eating food from other cultures and really loving it.  At the end of the day there was no food left,” said Ayah Aly.

A number of outside vendors set up in the cafeteria and were selling different items for Mothers Day, including jewelry, flowers, makeup, and bath products. Some vendors even offered freebies for purchasing items from them. By purchasing something from the Mary Kay table, customers could get a free facial with their purchase; if they bought something from the spa items table, they were offered a free spa appointment.

The performances took place in the auditorium, included bands formed among Curtis faculty as well as bands comprised of Curtis students. “I was shocked seeing my teachers preforming, they stepped into their confort zones and they looked happy what they were doing. My favorite preformance was the band with Mr. Deconzo, Mr. Williams and the Pillerallas,” said Leann Maldonado. There were also  a Jamican cultural dance  and a rap performance.
