Transportation issues recently caused problems for both the senior trip and the marine biology whale watching trip.
The senior trip was impacted after buses arrived four hours late. The seniors were very patient and finally arrived at the Poconos for the rest of the day. Despite the late arrival, the seniors still enjoyed the day with their fellow graduates. The marine biology whale watching trip also experienced transportation problems. One of the scheduled buses never arrived, preventing a group of students from attending the trip as planned. Andrés Muños said, “We waited for three hours outside in the rain, I had an umbrella but I would have been better inside.” While the rest of the students were still able to leave, those assigned to the missing bus were unable to participate that day. The whale watching trip, which is part of the school’s marine biology program, takes students through the New York Bight aboard the American Princess to learn about marine wildlife and whales returning to New York waters. The students who missed the trip were later informed that the experience would also be rescheduled. Liliany Castro said, “The new trip was great, there were less people and the weather was better.” For those who went on the rescheduled trip, they were rewarded with whale and dolphin sightings.
Mr. Scheffler, a marine biology teacher, said, “I was disappointed for the students. It’s such a unique and stimulating learning experience for students that, rain or shine, they are very excited for the adventure.”
