The Spring Concert was a stunning showcase of talent, dedication, and artistic growth within the Curtis High School music department. Under the expert direction of conductors Ms. Calabrese and Mr. Smith, the evening unfolded into a rich tapestry of sound and emotion, highlighting the musical talents that thrive within our school. From the first note to the final bow, the concert served as a testament to the hard work and creativity of our student musicians and their mentors.
The audience was captivated by the soulful, melancholic tones produced by the guitar ensembles, whose performances evoked deep reflection and admiration. The choral group followed, filling the auditorium with vocals that resonated with emotion and unity. The evening concluded with powerful performances by the concert bands, whose intricate arrangements and dynamic energy brought a fitting crescendo to an unforgettable night.
This year’s concert carried a particular emotional weight, as it marked the final performance for many of our graduating seniors. Students that began their musical journeys as wide-eyed freshmen have since grown into confident, skilled performers. Among these standout seniors are Charlotte Frizziola, Latifa Labdouni, and Adrienne Daluwattage. All three students’ passion for music has shaped not only their high school experience but also the culture of the Curtis music community. Latifa expressed her appreciation for the concert, “My last concert was bittersweet. I love playing music and getting the opportunity to play one last time on that stage. I will definitely make sure to visit in the years to come!” For four years, they have been integral members of both the jazz and symphonic bands, contributing their time, talent, and leadership to every rehearsal and performance.
Their dedication goes beyond technical skill. It is seen in their commitment to mentoring younger musicians, in their enthusiasm during every concert, and in their desire to continually push the boundaries of musical expression at Curtis. As they prepare to embark on new journeys, their legacy remains, an inspiring example of what it means to love, live, and share a community.
