With a sweeping record of seven wins and zero losses, it’s no surprise that Malik Grant was also the winner of the PSAL Wrestling City Championship. Malik Grant has now been a three year winner at the City Championships, but each year was met with a new challenge. This year’s challenge was to beat his own record. Being a senior Malik Grant set high standards for himself and wanted to end his senior year with a strong finish, and once again Malik Grant was nothing short of a win, coming in first place.

The PSAL City Championships was divided into two days as the top four scorers competed on Saturday, in the Bronx at the Truman High School in three different matches. Then the semi-finalist competed on Tuesday, in Manhattan.

Although Grant has participated in the PSAL City Championships for wrestling since his freshman year, when asked about how he felt entering into the competition, Grant expressed that “my heart was pounding and I was nervous because its my last one and I want to win it.” Grant’s practice and dedication were evident in his score of nineteen to three. Grant said “It feels great to win and now I’m looking forward to the NY State Championship”. And for those looking to join wrestling, Grant gave some helpful advice, “Just practice hard everyday and fight ‘till the very end.”

At the state championship Grant won one and lost the other two matches.
