Rosalbo wins the girls’ Jacques Award and joins the 1,000 points club

Senior Geena Rosalbo made 1000 point club and she was named the 30th annual Jacques Award winner.

Geena Rosalbo, a senior on the girls varsity basketball team, has just been inducted as the 11th player of the Warriors team into the 1000 points club for scoring over 1000 points in her high school basketball career. On February 15th, at a game against Staten Island Academy, Rosalbo entered with only 18 points to go. She and the rest of the team won that game with a 72-64 victory.

“It feels good . . . really good. I really can’t explain how I feel. I never really thought about scoring 1,000 points before this season and never really envisioned how I’d do it,” said Rosalbo. “The feeling is indescribable, to think I just accomplished a goal that I and others thought was unrealistic.’’

Her total point count after the game versus Staten Island Academy was 1,007, with only 5 points needed to surpass her coach Talia Sutton, who also was part of the 1000 point club as a high school baller. Recently Rosalbo’s overall score has surpassed her coach’s score, going up from 1,007 to 1,053.

In an interview given to the Staten Island Advance, Coach Sutton said, “I’m very happy for her . . . it’s a great way for her to get out. Reaching 1000 points is a testament of the hard work that she puts in, during and after practice, and she just deserves it. She earned it and it’s a nice thing for our program too.” Coach Sutton also described Geena as a “tough, talented individual who is a good representation for Curtis High School.”

Making the 1000 club isn’t the only honor that the superstar baller has achieved. She was also named the 30th annual Jacques Award winner for being Staten Island’s most outstanding girls high school basketball player.

When asked about her award and her feelings toward it, Rosalbo said, “Honestly there are no words to describe how I feel about it, but I’m honored because this was such a big award to receive and I didn’t expect to get it, so you can say I’m very surprised. It’s an amazing feeling overall.”

Rosalbo is the fourth Warrior to receive the Jacque Award for most outstanding girl’s high school basketball player, joining Clare Guerriero (1988), Dot Guerriero (1993) and Victoria Macaulay (2009).
