Students selected for USA Rugby Academy

Rugby team members scouted for summer academy play.

At the conclusion of the PSAL 2012-2013 season, a select group of Curtis rugby players were invited to participate in the USA rugby academy’s summer training camp. NYC houses the USA rugby academy, a national league for girls and boys. Six out of the fourteen of the Curtis rugby players were selected by scouts  to participate in this program.

The USA Rugby Academy works out of Manhattan and this prestigious program has accepted the six  girls to partake in their  advanced coaching camp, according to rugby coach Ms. Neto. “Players were chosen for their great amount of potential,” said Neto. The group of girls will learn skills from professional players as well as the USA Rugby staff. Over the summer this rugby training camp will help the team develop the necessary fundamentals to start the next season and help reduce the mistakes resulting in a losing season this year.” I love playing with my team and our hard training and practices will pay off next season,  I think with this training we will come back stronger next year,” said Wenwu Howard remarking on her selection to the invitation only event. Along with Howard the other girls attending are Carolyn Jackson,Nathlie Alvarez, Noelle Powell, Racheal Nagbe,Monica Romero and Anthonya Major.
