Winter Arts Festival

The Winter Arts Festival went very well this year. With many parents, teachers and faculty in attendance to see what the students have been working hard on for the fall semester. The music students put on many outstanding performances such as the jazz band with their two song set that featured six musical solos in one song. The symphonic band and guitar ensemble also put on amazing shows with songs that had the crowd erupt with cheers.

The most notable music of the festival was the orchestra. The orchestra had the jazz band, the symphonic band and the string orchestra combined into one band to play a couple of songs. One in particular was “The Polar Express” which had people in the crowd dancing and cheering by the end of the number.

As for the second half of the festival, we saw many talents in the acting area of performing arts.  These students acted out sketches from their classes. We also saw many pieces of amazing art from the art classes and after school clubs.  The works from the painting classes were small pictures of food as opposed to the typical winter landscapes. Ms. Erck explained, “We decided to do food for the Winter Arts Festival because winter scenes and landscapes basically scream “Christmas”, however, food represents family and gathering together.”

The drawing class had created portraits that were also very colorful and intriguing. They had a social media theme this year. All of the artwork was generally small and arranged on boards designed like an instagram or pinterest page. When asked, Ms. Erck commented, “I feel like if you don’t display art in a careful way, it’s doing a disservice to the students. I hope we can aspire to more art shows in the future.” All in all, the Winters Arts Festival was a success, as usual, and it showed how talented the students are.
