MSA soccer tournament more than fun

Muslim Student Association uses soccer to foster good community relations.

The MSA club main goal is to foster undertanding  at Curtis and within the Muslim community.  Soccer,  an international game was a perfect vechicle to bring the diverse community together. The purpose of the soccer tournament  was to serve as a bridge between the Muslim and non-Muslim community at Curtis High School. It enables a healthy community, a competitive yet cooperative environment for students in the community.

“We gained support from Curtis students to carry out the soccer tournaments and Tan Vir was able to market this tournament to the diverse student body of multiple ethnicities and religions,” stated Ahmed Zakria. “There were 10 registered soccer teams with 6 players on each team proving that the tournament was a great success” stated Federico Almeida.

The process of setting up a tournament at Silver Lake park was worth it but the major difficulty the MSA club faced was finding a venue to host the tournament. It took two months until the club hosts were able to use the Silver Park for their tournament location. Arslan Farooq stated, We are definitely planning to continue this tournament in the fall of next year and possibly even in the spring. “With these soccer tournaments we are able to bring together a diverse student body with so much potential,” body stated Tan Vir.
