Ava Ruberti, Freshmen

This current “freshie”, as some would call her, entered  her last leg of mandatory education believing, because of shows like “Degrassi” and “Neds Declassified”, that the day would feel prolonged because of the high jinks that were supposed to litter the halls. “It’s not though” she tells me with a small smile on her face, “the day goes fast for me.”

Xhon Hoxha, Junior

Xhon came into high school with scenes from movies playing in his head, causing the once doe-eyed freshman to believe that these four years of hormonal angst would be party filled, and free of academic pressures. Little did this once freshman know, academics would dictate his life for the next four years.

Ela Uhru, Junior

Ela Uhru, a current junior at Curtis High School, thought that the sports teams, especially the football team would have these beautiful, and envious matching letterman jackets and that the contact sport would be the biggest thing in school. This is a common misconception, because here the basketball team takes the cake with the biggest fan base.

Ashley Stephenson

Sophomore

Movies like Mean Girls got into this curly haired teen’s head as she entered Curtis. Ashley entered the lunchroom on her first day shaking, worrying about what clique she’d fit into. Would it be the preppy teens, the nerds and bookworms? Or maybe she’d get lucky and befriend a “Mean Girl”. She says, “Everyone was talking to everyone; no matter how different they looked from one another ‘style wise’. People were super nice and welcoming.”

Giouvanni Singh, Senior

This senior, being of generation Y, grew up with Disney channel originals. Cheetah Girls, Cow Belles, Twitches, and the inevitable High School Musical movies, and spin offs. He entered Curtis not only plagued with angst and teenage hormones, but the memories of all the High School Disney shows he used to watch flooding his brain, causing him to question whether or not his fellow classmates would break out into song for no apparent reason. If only  he knew the only singing he would hear would be from the clubs in the under funded arts department.

Anaya Martin, Junior

This tall, athletic teen entered high school believing that there would be large lockers in the school hallways.  Lockers with space inside that could almost rival the space in Mary Poppins’ bag. What she didn’t know was that the only lockers Curtis has  for students are the ones under the gym, to store their athletic wear.
