Public libraries

Volunteers assist with a variety of activities in various branches of the public library, as needed. Contact the individual branch in your neighborhood to inquire if they are accepting volunteers. You can find a list of locations at nypl.org/locations. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Possible activities include letter-writing campaigns, shelving, reading, assisting with computers, or tutoring adults in reading. For more information on volunteering, call your local branch of the New York Public Library or visit the NYPL’s volunteer page: nypl.org/help/about-nypl/volunteer-nypl.

The library system also needs volunteers for its literacy program at the St. George branch. Groups consist of adult readers ranging from beginner to sixth-grade level. Call the library’s Adult Learning Center at 718-816-1025.
